Our Mission

Our Vision

The San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus envisions a world where song, music and the arts bring harmony, inclusion and joy to all.

Our History

Founded in 1992 by John Alexander as a program of the Angeles Chorale, the San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus (SFVYC) was established as an independent non-profit youth chorus through the efforts of the parents. They believed in the value of music education and choral singing and wanted to be sure these opportunities were available to their children and other members of the community.

Our Commitment to Diversity,
Equity, Inclusion

The San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus affirms the value and dignity of every person and provides a welcoming environment for all. We believe that our participation in today’s world compels us to make efforts to understand the history and cultural heritage of all peoples within our community. We will continue to support and honor diverse cultures through our programs and the repertoire that we perform.

Our efforts in working toward diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility embody our beliefs and values that all people – including those who have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, language, citizenship status, or religion – have an equal voice.

Guided by these values, the SFVYC Board of Directors has established, and will further develop, policies and practices that allow us to examine, measure and evolve our ethical and cultural responsibilities to our choristers, program participants, families and community. We believe that through music and the arts, division can be overcome, and creativity and excellence will flourish. Our hope is that our program participants will gain a commitment to unity and an understanding of how music and the arts play an important role in promoting diversity, creating equity and achieving inclusion for all.

The San Fernando Valley Arts Coalition (SFVAC) was created to gather unity, support, and visibility for all the performing arts companies within the San Fernando Valley (SFV). Unknown to most, the Valley possesses its own theater district, opera companies, orchestras, master chorale, dance companies, and youth choruses and orchestras. As a result, valley residents travel to downtown LA or Hollywood to see live performances, being unaware that phenomenal performances are within their own neighborhood. We strive to be able to present bigger and better musical productions, reach more children by giving them unprecedented access and exposure to the arts, expand our mission to bring arts and cultural experiences to underprivileged communities in the Valley, and take the lead in making the SFV the premiere arts destination it can and deserves to be!
